N-002 . Noto . Spin

Recorded in Chemnitz in 1995, Spin was the first Alva Noto work released under his NOTO alias on NOTON in in 1996 on. Coming together with a 26,5 x 25 cm book, titled Nerv + Spin, the publication included seventy-eight pages and a CD containing twenty-four tracks all titled Spin. In his work Nicolai explored how speed could change the atmosphere of a composition and the way it could be experienced. He recorded twelve tracks available at two different sets of speed, using an AKAI S01 MIDI digital sampler. The result is an exploration of the human perception, providing the listener with two platforms from which to experience the same sonic material. The German electronic musician Frank Bretschneider worked on the editing of the recordings.
