Opto Files is the first full-length collaborative release between Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) and Thomas Knak (Opiate). These tracks seamlessly integrate subtle, elemental electronic melodies into the minimized rhythmic frameworks Alva Noto is known for. Knak has released solo works under his name as well as Opiate and Gloria Hirsch. He is a member of Future 3 and worked with Björk on her album, “Vespertine”. In these tracks, referred to as Opto Files 1 through 4, Nicolai’s digital glitches rhythmically sing accompaniment to Knak’s melodies, which serve up dub chamber echo sparks to add a more analogue, physical slant on the sharp micro beats.
