Wave Weave – Sono Obi is a two-track EP born from Carsten Nicolai’s 2025 collaboration and exhibition with Hosoo, Kyoto’s historic Nishijin-ori textile studio. The exhibition features two interrelated works exploring textile and sound.
Wave Weave captures the rhythm of Hosoo’s looms through video and synchronized electronic sound. Sono Obi Landscape transforms electronic music into sonograms, which are interpreted as textile patterns. The resulting fabric acts as a physical recording of sound, offering a new way to read and experience music through texture, visual form, and material presence.
The exhibition and the accompanying EP bridge tradition and innovation, reflecting Nicolai’s longstanding interest in weaving and sound while engaging with Hosoo’s centuries-long mastery of textile craft.
