Alva Noto - Carsten Nicolai - NOTON Newsletter

Dear all

I have recently re-established my label NOTON where I will self release all my back catalogue, collaborations and special projects.

I have decided to merge the Alva Noto, Carsten Nicolai and NOTON mailing lists to a single list where we will update you monthly on all projects.

If you receive this newsletter it is because you have joined one of our mailing lists.
In order not to overwhelm you with multiple information i have now a single mailing list.

This is a special welcome mail-out explaining NOTON that will be shortly followed by the regular May Newsletter later in the week.

Re-establishing »NOTON«

Founded by Carsten Nicolai as a small imprint in 1994, NOTON began its activities in 1996 with the release of noto’s “spin”. A collaboration with rastermusic began the same year, and by 1999 the two labels had merged as Raster-Noton.

Now, in 2017, NOTON will begin operating independently again by releasing Alva Noto’s entire back catalogue. Additionally, further releases are currently planned for the future.

NOTON will release not only music but also a variety of editions, books and objects. Ongoing projects and collaborations include: Noto, Alva Noto, Opto (Opiate + Alva Noto), cyclo. (Ryoji Ikeda + Alva Noto), ANBB (Alva Noto + Blixa Bargeld), Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto, Anne-James Chaton with Alva Noto + Andy Moor, ø + Noto.

Kicking things off, Alva Noto’s entire catalogue will be made available – digitally only – via the NOTON website and on most digital platforms worldwide for retail and streaming.

As initial NOTON exclusives, the albums “For“, “For 2“ and “Aleph-1“ — previously only available in Japan — will now be distributed worldwide.

“Opto Files“ and “Opto 2nd“ — Nicolai’s collaborations with Thomas Knak — will also be made available digitally for the first time.

Lined up already for the next 12 months are new physical releases involving exclusive collaborative works with cyclo. (Ryoji Ikeda + Alva Noto) and Ryuchi Sakamoto.

A new Alva Noto album in the “uni-“ series will be released in early 2018, followed by “xerrox vol. 4“ and a new Aleph-1 record “Aleph-2“.

Joana Seguro, an independent curator working in art and technology who has in past years also worked with Warp, Mute and The Vinyl Factory, has been appointed Managing Director for the label, and will work closely with Carsten Nicolai on all releases.

NOTON are always willing to listen to the work of likeminded artists, but currently there are no plans to release work not directly involving Alva Noto.
